Licia Albanese - 1913-2014, Italian (later American) soprano; sang for many years at the Metropolitan Opera New York, and is best remembered for her Puccini roles - 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25.5 cm) large autographed photo showing her as Manon Lescault, with dedication: "To Guilham Bleirod, cordially, Licia Albanese, Met Opera House". £50
 

   

 

   

  

  

 

Henri Albers - 1866-1925, Dutch baritone; he made his operatic debut in Holland as Mephistopheles in Gounod's Faust. In the 1890s he sang at the Metropolitan Opera with Jean de Reszke, Nellie Melba and Emma Calve. From 1899 he sang at the Opera Comique, by now performing baritone, bass-baritone and basso-cantante roles, including Germont Pere and Escamillo. He made many recordings of opera arias and Schumann and Tchaikovsky songs -autograph on 5 x 6 inches (12.5 x 15 cm) paper page, signed: "Henri Albers, Royal opera Covent Garden Juillet 1899". Condition: item was originally folded in half so has a horizontal crease, and has a small tear for 2 cms along this crease just above the word "opera". £20     

 

 

 

 

  

        

Lucia Aliberti - born 1957 (her publicity now says 1961) Italian soprano specialising in Bellini and Donizetti roles, including the title roles in Lucia di Lammermoor, Norma, Lucrezia Borgia, Anna Bolena and Beatrice di Tenda, plus Gilda (Rigoletto) and Violetta (La Traviata). She has performed at most of the world's major opera houses including The Met, ROH Covent Garden, La Scala Milan, & Rome Opera House 4 x 6 inches (15 x 20 cm) autographed photo, with dedication in Italain. £12      

 

 

  

  

 

  

Norman Allin - 1884-1973, British bass; famous for his resonant basso-profundo voice, heard in some of the earliest HMV complete recordings of operas, especially Bartolo in Glyndebourne's 1930s Le Nozze di Figaro - 3.5 x 5.5 inches (9 x 14 cm) autographed photo, with inscription: "Best wishes for a quick rec overy, from Norman Allin". Condition: fragments of paper on reverse where item has been glued in album. £30

         

   

  

 

  

  

    

Herbert Alsen - 1906-1978, German bass; sang at Vienna State Opera, ROH Covent Garden, Glyndebourne and the Metropolitan Opera New York; a fine Osmin and Rocco. Sang Pogner under Toscanini, and most famous as a superb Sarastro - 4 x 6 inches (10.5 x 14.5 cm) autographed photo, signed: "Herbert Alsen, 30.1.44". £35

Marcello Alvarez - born 1963, Argentinian tenor; he made his professional debut in 1995 at La Fenice as Elvino in La Sonnambula, and was immediately booked by many of Europe's major opera houses. In 1998 he made his debuts at Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Operta and the Vienna Staatsoper, all as Alfredo in La Traviata. Since then he has regularly appeared at Covent Garden, including as the Duke of Manchua, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera and as Hoffmann - 4 x 6 inches (10 x 15 cm) autographed photo showing him as the Duke of Manchua in Rigoletto at the Arena di Verona, signed: "To Albert, Marcello Alvarez". £18

Peter Anders - 1908-1954, German tenor; he joined Berlin Staatsoper in 1936 singing Tamino, Belmonte and Cavaradossi, then in 1948 he joined Hamburg Opera singing heroic roles such as Lohengrin, Florestan and Otello. At the 1950 Edinburgh Festival he sang Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, and at Covent Garden in 1951 he sang Florestan and Walther. In 1954 he died following a car accident. - 3.5 x 5.5 (9 x 14 cm) autographed postcard. £100

 

 

 

 

       

Giacomo Aragall - born 1939, Spanish tenor; particularly noted for his Cavaradossi in Tosca - 4 x 6 inches (10.5 x 15 cm) autographed photo showing him as Romeo in Bellini's I Capuletti e I Montecchi at La Scala Milan, 1966. (The card spells his name as "Aragal"). £25

Arleen Auger - 1939-1993, American soprano - a highly intelligent performer with a superb coluratura voice, who died an early death from a brain tumour. After training in California she won a scholarship to study in Vienna, and in 1967 made a sensational debut at the Staatsoper as the Queen of the Night, a role with which she made her New York City Opera debut in 1969. In 1978 she made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Marzelline in Fidelio, but it was in Europe that her main successes came, and she became perticularly famous for singing the title roles of Alcina and L'incoronazione di Poppea - 4 x 5.5 inches (10 x 14 cm) autographed photo showing her as Sandrina in Haydn's Lohnt sich Nich. Arleen Auger - 1939-1993, American soprano - a highly intelligent performer with a superb coloratura voice, who died an early death from a brain tumour. She was always more popular in Europe than in her native USA, and was most famous for singing the title roles in Alcina  and L'incoronatione di Poppea - autograph in blue biro on 3 x 5 inches (12.5 x 7.5 cm) white card.
